Wye Valley River Festival Ross on Wye Sunday 4th May 2014

2014 will see the first Wye Valley River Festival and Ross is taking part. The idea came from the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB) organisation which covers an area just north of Hereford all the way to Chepstow. Many of the communities along this stretch of the river are putting on special events. The main day for Ross is Sunday 4th May when there will be a of of activity down on the Rope Walk and on the river. Plans are in their early stages at the moment but the day will have 4 themes Historic Ross, Natural Ross, the creative arts and food and drink. More will be revealed as plans are confirmed.

The town council Events Committee has been coordinating meetings and working with groups in the town to put the festival together. Committee Chairman Cllr Caroline Utting is really pleased that so many organisations have become involved. The areas Schools have been working with the Ross Rotary Club on an exciting literacy project and will put on performances at the bandstand on the 4th May. The rotary and Lions Clubs are combining their effort’s to stage a beer and cider festival, walkers groups are organising themed guided walks, The Ross and District Civic Society will bring historic trade on the Wye to life and the Ross Town Band is planning some diverse musical entertainment.

St Marys Church is holding its own festival “The Wonders of the Wye” 2nd – 5th May that will celebrate the talents of local people and include concerts and exhibitions.

In addition to the 4th May events “A celebration of a Hedgehog” will take place over 3 weeks are being arranged.
