Building on the success of last year’s May Fayre, which brought thousands of people to Ross, the Association of Ross Traders (ART) and a fantastic group of local community volunteers are busy organising the 2013 May Fayre.  Put the date in your diary – bank holiday Monday 27th May, and look forward to a great day packed full of entertainment throughout the town centre in Ross.

The first ever Ross-on-Way May Fayre, which was held last Saturday, has proved to be an outstanding and stunning success. Blessed by beautiful sunny weather, the streets of Ross were jam packed with locals and visitors, who thoroughly enjoyed a very special day, which has truly been a credit to Ross and all those involved. Crowds began to build from early on in the day, and before long there was a continuous train of people filling the streets from Brookend St, right up and round to the end of Gloucester Rd. Crowd estimates are believed to have been around five thousand at the busiest time, and possibly up to 10,000 over the course of the day. Event Organiser, David MacGregor, ART Chairman and proprietor of Field Fayre – The Organic Store on Broad Street said, “I am thrilled with the turn out and all the positive feedback we have had from both the public and traders. So many people said they were lost for words to describe how wonderful the event was. The spirit of Ross was shining, and there were happy faces everywhere. Continue reading

Can you help with Ross on Wye May Fayre 12th May 2012

A new major community event for Ross on Wye is being planned and organised for Saturday 12th May this year. Organised by The Association of Ross Traders, the Ross on Wye May Fayre will be an annual all day event, with part of the town centre closed to traffic in order to host all manner of entertainment for young and old alike.

David Mc Gregor, A.R.T. Chairman and proprietor of Field Fayre, The Organic Store on Broad Street commented, ” We hope this community event will further enhance the towns reputation, attracting more new visitors  and have people talking about us far and wide.” David continued, ”We are very keen for everyone to get involved and help make this a great day. Even if you are not able to help beforehand, put the date in your diary and come in to town to support the local community.

We need entertainers of all sorts to get in touch to see how they can help. We invite schools, churches, local groups and organisations to get in contact to provide entertainment, help on the day or if they like have a stall. We would love amongst other things to see street theatre, cafes spilling out onto the street, great food stalls, craft and art exhibitions, a May Pole, Morris dancers, children’s activities, singers, musicians, choirs, bands, clowns, fools, majorettes, a hog roast, jugglers, bell ringers, medieval stocks,Punch and Judy, we are even hoping for a vintage car rally and possibly helicopter rides over Ross”

David concluded that we have still much to do with under 2 months to pull it all together. We are working with the Town and County Councils on street closures and financial support, but are also looking for other financial sponsors. If you can help or assist in any way to make this a great community event, please contact me by e-mail at ”

Congratulations Tudor Sweets Ross on Wye

Tudor Sweets in Ross on Wye has produced and is selling the official ‘Flavours of Herefordshire’ sweet which will soon be on sale at shops and visitor attractions across the county.

Sue and Daniel Pearce, owners and founders of Tudor Sweets, invited residents of Herefordshire to suggest what they thought the flavour should be. They were  absolutely inundated with hundreds of suggestions . Judges finally settled on

” Herefrordshire Cider with Rosie”. The name created by Carolyn Price local resident.

Daniel Pearce said ” We already produce Ross on Wye branded gift jars and tins of sweets for visitors to the town and with Herefordshire being such a show case for local flavours we thought it only natural to represent the county with a flavour of its own. What a better way to do it than a sweet”. A well known sweet manufacturer has already produced the cider apple flavour sweet in green and rosy red colours that are indicative of the name.
