Georgina Elsmere, of The Courtyard Centre for the Arts, Hereford looks forward to a new year visit by the Moscow State Circus.
It can often seem a little quiet around The Courtyard after the pantomime cast has left, and the chaos of panto has come to an end. But of course, at The Courtyard, there is always something new coming in to get excited about. On January 31 and February 1, the Moscow State Circus will be bringing their world-famous show to Hereford.
Babushkin Sekret is inspired by the Legend of the Twelve Chairs. Set in Soviet Russia, the story centres around a desk clerk whose grandmother reveals on her deathbed that she has hidden the family jewellery in a 12 chair dining suite. Unfortunately, the chairs, like all personal property, have been expropriated by the government. Clown Valerik plays the desk clerk and, with the help of sidekick Valik, must track down the family fortune.
The Moscow State Circus has some of the most talented artistes in the world, famed for their spectacular performances. Many of those performing have never performed in Britain before this tour. The circus is adapting its performance from the Big Top to the stage, and we cannot wait to see how they’re going to do it.
