On the Way to the Wye

40th Celebration Event- On the Way to the Wye
A free family event celebrating the Georgian period in Ross on Wye. Fun, frolics, fiddles faddle, frippery and foppery with living history event. Meet 18th century ladies, gentlemen, soldiers, sailors, rogues and vagabonds. Join the historical progression through Ross with historian Heather Hurley and find out about the famous characters that popularised the Wye Tour and the Picturesque. There will be demonstrations of food, wine, costume, boatbuilding, lacemaking, candle making, basket making and rope making.

Displays
Ross Historical Progression
Meet characters from the Georgian period on their way to embark on the wye Tour from the Market House Heritage Centre led by historian Heather Hurley. Meet Lord Nelson, John Kyrle, Reverend Egerton and Gilpin as well as the notorious Sin eater.
Historical Demonstrations
Visit the conservatory at the Hope and Anchor pub on Ross Quay and learn historians Dr Annie Gray and John Hurley about Georgian food and wine. Observe how a lady dresses in Portrait of a Lady.
Military re-enactments
28th North Gloucestershire Regiment of Foot and the Worcester Yeomanry and Cavalry will be displaying sword and musket drill.
