This afternoon a Otter was seen swimming in the River Wye out side Wilton Court , one of the guests staying here this weekend noted something swimming in the river, they thought it was a stick to begin with but then noticed it was moving against the current ,(they then took the below picture) it then pops out of the water onto the river bank then dived back in and disappeared, on speaking with the owners Helen and Roger Wynn it seems that they are not the only ones to comment on seeing the Otter, last year another resident mentioned that they had seen the Otter out and about, unfortunately we don’t know if its a pair but who knows. This shows that the river is getting a lot healthier and cleaner, which intern means fish stocks are on the increase. I doubt the fishermen are going to very pleased about this, but hey that’s wildlife for you.
With the centenary of the end of the first world war, coming up on the 11th November 2018, poppies are on the mind of a few people this year, like the Bridstow spinners of Ross on wye, are busy stringing together piles of textile poppies, donated by thousands of knitters and fiber fans from all over the UK and Abroad. So far over 40,000 poppies have been sent, in support of a appeal by wonderwool of wales, in which the donated poppies will be strung out and displayed at Hall 3 at the Royal Welsh Show Ground at Builth Wells on the 28th and 29th April.
