The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Cllr David Ravenscoft, will be supporting the famous Ross-on-Wye Pancake Day Races which will be taking place through the main street of the town on Shove Tuesday 12th February, culminating in front of the Market House Visitor Centre from 3.00pm

Ross on Wye Pancake Day Races Tuesday 21st February 2012

The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Cllr David Ravenscoft, will be supporting the famous Ross-on-Wye Pancake Day Races which will be taking place through the main street of the town on Shrove Tuesday 21st February, culminating in front of the Market House Visitor Centre. Adult races from 2.30pm Children from 3.30pm

Prizes for winners and special achievements. There will be a Best Dressed Pinny Competition (sponsored by Essential Sewing) at 4.30pm in the Market Square.

The races are a simple 50m or 100m sprint, each entrant is to provide their own Frying Pan and each person must wear non-slip shoes suitable for running and an apron. Pancakes will be provided and each participant will be required to toss pancakes at the beginning, middle and end of the race.

Entry fee is £1 per person if pre-booked (£3 on the day) Any extra funds raised will be donated to the Association of Ross Traders to raise the profile of the town for the benefit of visitors and traders.

“Ross-on-Wye has a long history of organising an annual pancake race.” Said Helen Kiddy from ART (Association of Ross Traders), the organisation behind the revival of the popular event in 2010 and 2011.

Said Helen. “Races will take place throughout the afternoon in several numerous categories with lots of races for children of all ages, organised after the local schools close for the day.

Local shop keepers, businesses and individuals who would like to take part should get in touch with Helen Kiddy at Essential Sewing Services in Gloucester Road on 01989 566406. Entry forms are also be available at various places in the town from: Essential Sewing Services, Tudor Sweets, Field Fair and The Ross Gazette office from 1st February.

“Richard Mayo from Truffles Delicatessen has won the Retailers’ Race two years in a row and taken away the coveted trophy (a non-stick frying pan)”. Said Helen Kiddy. “We are determined that it won’t be Richard again this year!”
