Built on a place of worship used since Saxon times Hereford Cathedral contains some of the finest examples of art and architecture from Norman times to the present day. The recently completed Cathedral Close Project has re-established its beauty and dignity in the heart of Herefords historic city and diocese, with new social spaces, artworks and interpretation for you to enjoy.

The Hereford Mappa Mundi is a unique medieval treasure, recording  how scholars interpreted the world over 700 years ago  . More than a thousand drawings and inscriptions show cities anhd towns, Biblical events, plants, animals, birds, strange creatures and monstrous races

The chained library contains 225 manuscripts and over 1.200 early printed books, with the earliest from the 8th century. The books are chained to 17th century presses where they are housed and read, alongside changing displays of rare books, archives and artefacts

Music and events. Free lunchtime organ concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.15 ( 1 May to 3 July and 7 August to 25 September) with jazz in the Chapter House Garden at 1.15 in August.

Art at the Cathedral has long been a center for creative expression, with carvings in stone and wood painted shrines, stained glass and silverware.

Wilton Court Restaurant with rooms are inviting you to join them to watch the Diamond Jubilee Pageant at highwater on Sunday 3rd June when they will be serving a special Jubilee Sunday lunch 

Full coverage of the Jubilee Pagaent  will be viewed on two large screens in the Mulberry Restaurant. The lunch will commence from 12.00 noon with a welcome pimms and canapes followed by a mouth watering  three course Sunday lunch served from 12.30 onwards.

At high water (midday) up to a thousand boats will muster on the River Thames including Her Majesty The Queen The Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal family on the Royal Barge (The Spirit of Chartwell) all taking part in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. It will be one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river. Rowed boats, working boats  and pleasure vessels of all shapes and sizes will be beautifully dressed with streamers and Union Flags, their crews and passengers turned out in their finest rigs. The armed forces, fire, police, resuce and other services will be afloat and there will be an exuberance of historic boats, wooden launches, steam vessels and other boats of note. A new major community event for Ross on Wye is being planned and organised for Saturday 12th May this year. Organised by The Association of Ross Traders, the Ross on Wye May Fayre will be an annual all day event, with part of the town centre closed to traffic in order to host all manner of entertainment for young and old alike.

David Mc Gregor, A.R.T. Chairman and proprietor of Field Fayre, The Organic Store on Broad Street commented, ” We hope this community event will further enhance the towns reputation, attracting more new visitors  and have people talking about us far and wide.” David continued, ”We are very keen for everyone to get involved and help make this a great day. Even if you are not able to help beforehand, put the date in your diary and come in to town to support the local community.

We need entertainers of all sorts to get in touch to see how they can help. We invite schools, churches, local groups and organisations to get in contact to provide entertainment, help on the day or if they like have a stall.We would love amongst other things to see street theatre, cafes spilling out onto the street, great food stalls, craft and art exhibitions, a May Pole, Morris dancers, children’s activities, singers, musicians, choirs, bands, clowns, fools, majorettes, a hog roast, jugglers, bell ringers, medieval stocks,Punch and Judy, we are even hoping for a vintage car rally and possibly helicopter rides over Ross”

David concluded that we have still much to do with under 2 months to pull it all together.
